Guest Lecture on Molecular Markers held at Experiome

Experiome organised its first guest lecture, entitled, Applications of Molecular Markers for Vegetable Crop Improvement on April 6, 2022.
Molecular markers are also called DNA markers. They play a major role in plant molecular breeding programs. They allow detection of polymorphisms/variations that exist among individuals in the population for specific region of DNA (RFLP, AFLP, SNP etc).
With an aim to understanding more about molecular markers and their applications, Experiome organised a guest lecture on molecular markers. The guest speaker was Dr Shailesh Kumar Tiwari, Senior Scientist, ICAR- Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
Dr Tiwari presented an overview of high-density genetic linkage maps based on molecular markers generated using RILs as mapping populations. He also discussed the importance of molecular markers in plant breeding approaches to produce stress resistant crops.
The team Experiome would like to thank Dr Shailesh Kumar Tiwari for a highly informative talk on molecular markers and their importance.
