Dr Mahesh Kumar Basantani, PhD
Founder and CEO


As the CEO, Dr Mahesh Kumar Basantani brings more than 20 years of research, teaching, mentoring and administration experience to Experiome. He manages the overall operations of the company. He plans and implements the company’s operational and financial function and performance.

Dr Basantani completed his PhD from Lucknow University where his research focused on plant stress biology. He worked on the role of glutathione transferases in glyphosate tolerance in plants. After completing his PhD he joined as a postdoctoral fellow in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Pittsburgh, USA. During his six-year long tenure he worked extensively on diabetes and obesity using genetically engineered animal model systems. His postdoctoral work focused on the role of patatin-like phospholipase domain containing proteins (PNPLA2 and PNPLA3) in lipid metabolism and metabolic syndrome. He has published research papers in high-impact peer-reviewed journals like Diabetes, Journal of Lipid Research, American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism, Pesticide Biochemistry and Physiology, Journal of Plant Physiology, Genome, Current Plant Biology, Frontiers in Plant Science, Current Developments in Nutrition, etc.


Parvez Akhtar, PhD
Co-Founder and Vice-President


As one of the Founders and the Vice-President, Dr Parvez Akhtar brings more than 20 years of research, administration, and mentoring experience to Experiome.

He is a Research Scientist and project leader on oncolytic virotherapy (cancer viral therapy) for glioblastomaat Advocate Aurora Health, which is a non-profit healthcare system with dual headquarters located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Downers Grove, Illinois, USA.

He has mentored and trained several undergraduate and postgraduate students, research scholars,and doctors. He has successfully received several cancer foundation (USA) grant fundings focused on cancer viral therapy.

He has published research papers in high-impact peer-reviewed journals like Molecular Microbiology, Journal of Medical Microbiology, Journal of Bacteriology, BMC Cancer, Nucleic Acids Research, Molecular Therapy Oncolytics, etc. He has published more than 30 scientific abstracts in various international conferences.

He has presented his research at several international conferences and seminars. He has presented his research at the Society for Neuro-Oncology annual conference, and the prestigious Rieselbach Distinguished Paper Sessions, Advocate Aurora Health.

He completed his PhD from Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, India. During his PhD he worked on the identification and validation of new drug targets in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. He did his postdoctoral training at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine, and University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI), where he investigated the human papillomavirus (HPV)-mediated changes in cellular microRNA expression.
